About This Work

In 2007, I had the privilege of creating Elements, a kinetic sculpture for the John Igo Branch Library in San Antonio. This piece is more than just art—it's a celebration of renewable energy and environmental sustainability. Elements features a contemporary wind turbine that not only serves as a visual focal point but also harnesses the wind to generate electricity. This electricity powers a water pump, circulating water through a channel that flows into the library, symbolizing the integration of natural resources into our everyday lives.

The Story Behind

Crafted from galvanized steel, stainless steel, and oxidized steel, the sculpture reflects both the rugged and refined aspects of nature. The design combines the functionality of a modern windmill turbine with an abstracted interpretation of a historical windmill, marrying the past with the future in a way that resonates with the library's theme of conservation and education. Creating Elements was a deeply rewarding process, allowing me to merge my passion for art with my commitment to green design. I hope that this sculpture not only enhances the aesthetic of the library but also inspires visitors to think about the potential of renewable energy in our communities.
